Is the school year being extended to accommodate make-up days? What is Canyons doing to support at-home learning? The dismissal of all 50 CSD schools and programs as a preemptive measure to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 has generated a lot of questions, and it’s important that families know where they can go for timely information they can trust. Canyons District has created a web portal where students, parents and employees can find the latest announcements and developments. Government guidelines are changing rapidly, and we’ll updating our community on a regular basis, so please bookmark this link for future reference. Check Out CSD’s Technology Check-Out Program March 12, 2020 Uncategorized Computer on the fritz? No Internet connection at home? Canyons District’s technology check-out program has you covered. Technology is ubiquitous. It’s how we access knowledge, connect with one another, and get work — or, homework — done. But not all Canyons students have ready access to a computer at home. So, Canyons District maintains a pool of loaner devices which can be checked out in a similar fashion to library books, except for a more extended period of time. Computing devices and Wi-Fi hotspots are provided to students free-of-charge through CSD’s “Bridging the Digital Divide” program. Previously, the grant-funded check-out program was limited to CSD’s five traditional high schools, but is now being expanded to include middle schools and elementary schools. Continue reading Novel Coronavirus: Steps We’re Taking to Keep Schools Healthy March 12, 2020 Uncategorized The Canyons Board of Education and Administration want the community to be aware of the District’s planning efforts to appropriately respond to any outbreak of COVID-19, otherwise known as the novel coronavirus. We take the safety and health of Canyons students and employees seriously and are aware of the potential of this global virus impacting our local community. Please know that Canyons District administrators have started discussions about how to respond if there is an outbreak in our area. So far, there is only one case in Utah, and that patient is quarantined and being monitored closely by medical professionals. To be clear, while there is a case being treated in the state, no Utah schools have been closed as a result of the novel coronavirus. In matters of public health and planning ahead for a potential emergency responses, Canyons District takes its cues from the county and state health departments. In the event of an outbreak, our school nurses and Responsive Services Department will work closely with health authorities to execute a plan. In fact, Canyons District’s Administration has been in close contact with the health department for the past several weeks about this very issue. Our academic team also has started discussions on how students could continue learning online or in other formats if schools are closed for a significant amount of time.
